
Katherine Short, the daughter of the well-known comedian and actor Martin Short, passed away on Monday at the age of 42. Katherine, a social worker, was one of Short and his ex-wife Nancy Dolman’s three adopted children. According to TMZ, she was found dead at her home in the Hollywood Hills, and law enforcement officials have confirmed that she committed suicide.
In a statement, the representative of the actor who played Katherine on The Only Murders in the Building said, “It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short.” The Short family requests privacy at this time because they are devastated by the loss. Everyone adored Katherine and will remember her for the joy and light she brought to the world.”
Katherine mostly stayed away from the limelight, but had occasionally accompanied her father on red carpet events. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in psychology and gender sexuality studies and master’s in social work, she began practising as a licensed clinical social worker and part-time at the Amae Health clinic to help with community outreach, family support groups, peer support and psychotherapy.
Short and Dolman married in 1980 and adopted Katherine and her two brothers Henry and Oliver. Dolman passed away in 2010 after suffering from ovarian cancer.Short, who is on a comedy and music tour The Best of Steve Martin & Martin Short with his Only Murders in the Building co-star and longtime friend Steve Martin, has postponed his upcoming shows in Milwaukee and Minneapolis following Katherine’s unforeseen death.
