O’Romeo Movie Review Synopsis:

A lover goes on a murderous rampage in O’ROMEO. It’s 1995. Ustara, played by Shahid Kapoor, resides in Mumbai with his grandmother, Farida Jalal, and his gang members. He works for Ismail Khan of the Intelligence Bureau (Nana Patekar). After their feud, Khan has provided Ustara with protection. Ustara was formerly employed by the fugitive gangster Jalal (Avinash Tiwary). In exchange, Khan has Ustara handle the grunt work of catching criminals. One day, a mysterious woman named Afshan (Triptii Dimri) meets Ustara in his hiding place. Afshan requests that Ustara kill three individuals for her: Jalal, a police officer named Pathare (Rahul Deshpande), and a lawyer named Anjum Ansari (Resh Lamba). Her demand amuses Ustara, who turns down the position. Afshan steals out of desperation

O’Romeo Movie Story Review:

Hussain Zaidi’s story is inspired by true events. Vishal Bhardwaj and Rohan Narula’s screenplay has strokes of brilliance, but sadly, it isn’t without its share of rough edges. Vishal Bhardwaj’s dialogues are impactful.

Vishal Bhardwaj’s direction is excellent overall. Although he is well-known for his niche movies, KAMINEY (2009) took him a step closer to the mainstream. O’ROMEO marks his return to the genre. He also adds heartache and excessive bloodshed, which are popular right now. The artistic and visual scores of the movie. Ustara’s ship-based hideout is unique. The action has a peculiar, distinct edge because he employs “ustara” to eliminate criminals. Even though Ustara’s journey is full of tragedy and eccentricity, Afshan emerges as the story’s emotional center. She is surprisingly not a damsel in distress and will do whatever it takes for the right reasons. This gives the story a more forward-thinking vibe. The reality

However, the second half of the film is a weak point. The love story at the heart of O’ROMEO eventually falls flat. There appear to be some violent scenes that are reminiscent of ANIMAL [2023]. The film takes some artistic license because it is intended to be sold to consumers. Some developments, however, are extremely practical and even absurd. Lastly, the music is not as appealing.

O’Romeo Movie Review Performances:

Vishal Bhardwaj, as is to be expected, gets bravura performances out of his actors despite the flaws. Shahid Kapoor devotes his entire being to the role. Shahid gives a powerful, committed performance throughout, and Ustara is a demanding character. Triptii Dimri once more demonstrates her talent, and after some time has passed, she produces a performance that matches her strong performances in LAILA MAJNU (2018), BULBBUL (2020), and QALA (2022). She keeps it subtle and controlled, and that restraint makes her impact even stronger. Avinash Tiwary has a late entry, but his explosive performance makes up for it. Nana Patekar is as trustworthy as ever and also makes people laugh. Farida Jalal and Hussain Dalal (Chhotu) deliver adorable performances. Both Tamannaah Bhatia (Rabiya) and Vikrant Massey (Mehboob) perform well in cameo roles. Disha Patani (Julie) adds to the glam quotient. Resh Lamba has limited scope. As the cop who also enjoys classical music, Rahul Deshpande is too good. Anubha Fathpuria (Chachi, Biryani eatery owner) and Kashyap Shangari (Mohsin) are okay. Natasha Bharadwaj, also known as Nagis, makes a mark.

O’Romeo movie music and other technical aspects:

Vishal Bhardwaj’s films always have a memorable soundtrack, but sadly, the songs in O’ROMEO don’t come under that category. All the songs – ‘Aashiqon Ki Colony’, ‘Paan Ki Dukaan’, ‘Ishq Ka Fever’, the title song etc – are well woven into the narrative though. Vishal Bhardwaj’s background score is far better, especially in the Spain scenes.

Ben Bernhard’s cinematography, along with contributions from Konstantin Minnich and Saurabh Goswami, elevates the film’s scale. Mustafa Stationwala’s production design is detailed, complemented by realistic yet stylish costumes by Maxima Basu. The action sequences by Dani Del Rosario and Vikram Dahiya are gory, while Aarif Sheikh’s editing is adequate.

O’Romeo Movie Review Conclusion:

O’ROMEO features several well-made moments and strong performances from the lead cast, yet suffers from uneven writing and an ordinary soundtrack, hindering its intended impact. The film is likely to have an average box office opening and will require a solid jump in earnings to recoup its high costs.
