The comedy show Funky was co-written by VishwakSen and KV Anudeep, who is famous for his work on JathiRathnalu. The female protagonist is KayaduLohar. Let’s see how the movie does now that it is playing in theaters.

Story:

A movie titled Funky is directed by Komal, played by Vishwak Sen. The producer’s (Naresh Vijayakrishna) health deteriorates as a result of the constant increase in the budget; after that, his daughter Chitra (Kayadu Lohar) takes charge. In order to finish the remaining shoot, she decides to replace the director. What follows next? Is Komal back in charge? The story’s heart is in this.

Plus Points:

Vishwak Sen does a good job of comedy and breaks away from his common persona. It’s refreshing to see the actor in a different role, and he does an excellent job of delivering the quirky one-liners. However, if the writing had supported him more effectively, it would have been much better. Kayadu Lohar plays the producer’s daughter well and is quite pretty on screen. Her rapport with the protagonist is effective. There are jokes in both halves that work to some extent. Fortunately, the movie has a short running time, which works in the film’s favor slightly, especially since it doesn’t tell a good story.

Minus Points:

The producers repeatedly urged audiences to forget logic and enjoy the comedy in the pre-release marketing campaign. The movie may not meet all of the expectations of its audience. Funky’s main flaw is that it doesn’t flow well, making it feel like it’s made up of disparate parts.

Although a few jokes work occasionally, almost every scene appears random, making it difficult to connect with the film as a whole. Despite its silliness, Jathi Rathnalu was successful because the story kept moving, whereas Funky feels meaningless and lacks clear direction. The majority of the audience might not like this approach.

Even though some films are only made for entertainment, they still manage to have a basic plot. However, Funky falls short of this goal because it does not have a strong point of conflict or emotional depth. The film tries to get emotional near the end, but it doesn’t work. The songs are not up to par, and in several scenes, the dubbing feels off.

Technical Aspects:

Bheems Ceciroleo does an average job because the songs don’t work. The film’s cinematography by Suresh Sarangam is pleasant, and every frame looks colorful. The production costs are reasonable. The editing is choppy, but this isn’t much to complain about because the scenes themselves feel very random.

Even though Anudeep KV concentrated on the one-liners, it would have been much better if he had focused on creating appropriate comedy blocks. The decision to rely too much on one-liners does not quite work in this situation. The Sampath Raj track as a whole seems pointless.

Verdict:

In general, Funky is a subpar comedy drama that appears to be the result of stitching together a collection of random scenes. Anudeep KV focuses very little on the story and screenplay as he tries to evoke comedy primarily through one-liners. Kayadu Lohar and Vishwak Sen deliver strong performances in their respective roles. While some jokes work, the film fails to deliver overall, making it a disappointing outing from Anudeep KV.
